The positon ensures that PGI's core data-processing, machine-learning, computer vision, and analytical workflows remain robust, reproducible, scalable, and fit for operational use across internal programs, client studies, and strategic partnerships. Axelyra will be supported as a defined strategic client through approved workstreams focused on custom analyses, translational analytics, and next-generation AI/ML method development.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage, mentor, and develop the Data Science team; set priorities, allocate resources, establish timelines, and ensure high-quality execution.
  • Maintain and improve operational data science infrastructure supporting SmartCube, NeuroCube, PhenoCube, and eCube.
  • Ensure continuity, reliability, reproducibility, scalability, and auditability of core data-processing, ML, computer vision, analytics, and reporting workflows.
  • Partner with software engineering, operations, pharmacology, neuroscience, and study teams to support preclinical neuroscience and pharmacology studies.
  • Build and maintain scalable ML analytics pipelines, including data ingestion, preprocessing, feature extraction, model development, validation, deployment, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Establish standards for model validation, documentation, version control, data quality, and operational robustness.
  • Collaborate in maintenance and development of PGI data collection systems, including sensor, video, signal-processing, and data-processing modules.
  • Support budgeting, project planning, vendor evaluation, hiring, and prioritization of data science and platform investments.
  • Lead custom analyses for Axelyra and other approved client/partner projects under defined project scopes and deliverables.
  • Develop next generation analytical methods that support translational drug development, including behavioral analytics, EEG/eCube analytics, multimodal data integration, and AI/ML decision support tools.
  • Translate Cube-derived outputs into actionable insights for drug repurposing, indication selection, patient-stratification hypotheses, translational biomarker development, and development decision-making.
  • Prepare technical reports, scientific presentations, client-facing deliverables, publications, and business-development materials supporting PGI and, where appropriate, Axelyra objectives.
  • Evaluate external technologies, datasets, software platforms, vendors, academic methods, and competitive capabilities that may complement PGI platform operations or client/partner strategy.
  • Represent PGI's data science and AI capabilities in scientific, partner-facing, commercial, and conference settings.
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality, data access, IP, and deliverable-management practices for Axelyra and other client-facing work.

Required Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree or equivalent professional experience, in data science, computer science, bioinformatics, computational biology, neuroscience, pharmacology, engineering, statistics, or a related field.
  • Significant senior-level experience leading data science, machine learning, computational biology, computer vision, AI platform, or scientific software teams.
  • Demonstrated experience building, maintaining, and improving large-scale analytical or technology platforms in an operational environment.
  • Deep expertise in machine learning, statistics, computer vision, and analysis of complex experimental, biological, behavioral, sensor-derived, imaging, or electrophysiological datasets.
  • Strong hands-on experience developing, evaluating, validating, and deploying ML/AI analytical tools using experimental data.
  • Demostrated ability to deliver reproducible, maintainable, and operationally robust ML solutions.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and the modern Python-based/ML/data science stack, including tools such as pandas, NumPy, SciPy, scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow/Keras, and visualization packages.
  • Ability to think strategically and tactically across platform architecture, scientific interpretation, team leadership, client deliverablies, and hands-on technical problem solving.
  • Strong communication, organizational, project-management, delegation, and cross-functional leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in preclinical neuroscience, behavioral pharmacology, translational biomarkers, EEG, video analytics, behavioral phenotyping, drug discovery, or translational medicine.
  • Experience with MLOps, cloud computing, containerization, CI/CD, data governance, model monitoring, high-performance computing, GPU-accelerated workflows, or version-controlled analytical workflows.
  • Experience with Java, C++, C#, CUDA, Cython, or similar tools; experience writing manuscripts, technical reports, client-facing deliverables, or business-development materials
